Hitchhiking in the Modern Age: Frédéric Mazzella of BlaBlaCar to Speak at Habitat Event

It has just been announced that the market capitalization of the ride-sharing service BlaBlaCar has increased to EUR 1.4 billion (USD 1.6 billion) after the service raised USD 200 million in the latest round of fundraising. BlaBlaCar is now one of five European startups whose market value is estimated to exceed USD 1 billion. Frédéric Mazzella, the creator of the innovative ride-sharing service, will be one of Habitat Day’s celebrity speakers, giving Forum visitors the opportunity to congratulate him on his company’s success in person!

BlaBlaCar is a service that, for a small fee, allows users to get “a lift” from a car driver who is heading to a different city. At present, more than 20 million users in 19 countries take advantage of the service; BlaBlaCar’s website offers routes stretching for a total of over 3 billion kilometers; and drivers who have taken users of the service as their passengers have saved EUR 275 million. Furthermore, shared rides have prevented more than 700,000 metric tons of atmospheric emissions.

At the Open Innovations Forum, Frédéric Mazzella will participate in a round table titled The Sharing Economy: A New Consumption Model?, where sharing will be discussed as one of the latest trends and one of the fastest-growing sectors in the economy. These services have already radically altered the real estate and car rental markets, and may be poised to change the service provider model completely, thoroughly optimizing the use of resources and undermining established players and their hold on the market.

Come and visit us on Habitat Day at the Open Innovations Forum and Technology Show on October 29 at VDNH in Moscow.
